Benedetto Global is recruiting on behalf of a leading Offshore Drilling Contractor for an experienced Chief Electrician to join offshore drilling operations in Nigeria.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled electrical professional to play a critical role in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of all electrical systems onboard an offshore jack-up drilling rig. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical equipment while ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and maintenance standards.
Role Description
Reporting to the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM), the Chief Electrician will oversee all electrical operations onboard the rig and ensure that electrical systems remain fully operational to support uninterrupted drilling activities.
The role requires strong technical expertise in power generation and distribution systems, drilling equipment, marine electrical systems, and maintenance management, together with a proactive commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure daily inspections and preventative maintenance of all electrical equipment onboard the rig.
- Ensure Permit to Work (PTW) procedures are implemented and fully complied with.
- Participate in the effective management of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) and Inventory Control System.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in a timely manner.
- Plan and execute periodic maintenance programmes in coordination with supervisors and department heads.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair power generation and distribution systems.
- Maintain and repair generators, switchboards, transformers, power management systems, and associated equipment.
- Maintain HVAC systems, refrigeration plants, lighting systems, communications systems, and general rig electrical equipment.
- Carry out maintenance and repair of electrical components associated with drilling and marine equipment.
- Perform and interpret electrical calculations including:
- Power calculations
- Power factor calculations
- Insulation resistance testing
- Protective relay testing
- Monitor electrical system performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Maintain adequate spare parts inventory to support safe and efficient rig operations.
- Generate requisitions and procurement requests as required.
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
- Integrate Safety Conversations and risk assessment processes into all planned activities.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and risk assessment reviews.
- Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Ensure all personnel follow established HSE policies and procedures.
- Support a proactive safety culture onboard the rig.
- Provide coaching and guidance to subordinate personnel on safety observation and monitoring processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, offshore regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent recognised electrical qualification.
- High School Diploma may be considered where supported by significant relevant experience.
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience as a Chief Electrician or similar senior electrical role onboard an offshore jack-up drilling rig.
- Valid offshore medical certificate.
- Valid vaccination certificates as required for offshore mobilisation.
- Strong technical knowledge of offshore electrical systems and drilling rig operations.
- Ability to perform and interpret technical electrical calculations.
- Good computer literacy and maintenance management system experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lead and supervise offshore electrical personnel effectively.
