Our client is delivering a significant offshore transmission portfolio designed to support the transition to Net Zero. These projects include the establishment of major transmission infrastructure, connections to HVDC systems and the integration of advanced AC grid control and stabilisation technology.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join the Offshore AC Project Engineering team and play a key role in delivering large-scale island transmission projects.
Role Description
As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating engineering delivery across large capital projects, ensuring quality, safety, technical governance and risk management are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure appropriate engineering resources are in place for delivery of engineering scope across Large Capital Projects (Gate 1 to Gate 4) for assigned projects or packages typically valued between £100M – £1000M
Identify, manage and mitigate Engineering and Quality risks to protect asset integrity, programme and delivery
Chair meetings with contractors and key stakeholders and lead general project coordination activities
Organise and facilitate design reviews and technical workshops including HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON and Design Authority Reviews
Provide direct line management to Assistant Engineering Managers and Project Engineers
Coordinate all engineering activities, including the appointment and management of engineering consultants and technical oversight of contractors
Ensure technical requirements are clearly communicated and understood across project teams
Identify early technology elements requiring Technical Authority approval and prepare approval plans in collaboration with technical teams
Promote and manage safety across the project portfolio, including Safety in Design, CDM procedures, Principal Designer practices and review of RAMS, commissioning and operational safety requirements
Take responsibility for Design Management Plans, Engineering Works Information, scheduling of design reviews and ensuring competent technical leadership in conjunction with the Project Engineering Manager and Technical Authority
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Electrical or Civil Engineering with CEng status)
Significant experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams with strong prioritisation and risk mitigation capability
Strong technical knowledge of transmission networks and high-level understanding of related systems and facilitating functions
In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation affecting transmission network management, including CDM and ESQCR
Strong understanding of legal and regulatory obligations within transmission projects and asset management
Ability to build effective relationships with consultants, contractors and industry experts
Strong communication skills with the ability to challenge complex technical issues clearly and concisely to support senior management decision-making
