Benedetto Global is recruiting on behalf of a leading international Offshore Drilling Contractor for an experienced Senior Subsea Engineer to join offshore semi-submersible drilling operations onboard the Borgland Dolphin.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled subsea professional to join a high-performance offshore drilling environment supporting critical subsea operations, well control systems, and BOP equipment across long-term drilling campaigns in Spain and UK waters.
Role Description
Reporting to the Toolpusher, the Senior Subsea Engineer will lead and supervise the Subsea Department onboard the semi-submersible drilling rig, with overall responsibility for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of blowout prevention (BOP) systems and associated subsea equipment.
The role involves planning and executing subsea operations in line with the drilling programme, supervising BOP handling, testing, running, recovery, and maintenance activities, while ensuring high standards of operational readiness, safety, and housekeeping.
The successful candidate will work closely with offshore departments, contractors, and client representatives while actively supporting well control preparedness, emergency response, risk assessments, and offshore training activities.
Key Responsibilities
Subsea Operations & Maintenance
Lead and supervise all subsea department activities onboard the rig
Ensure safe operation, maintenance, and testing of BOP systems and associated subsea equipment
Plan and coordinate BOP running, recovery, testing, and maintenance operations
Monitor subsea equipment performance and ensure operational readiness at all times
Maintain accurate maintenance records, certification records, and subsea documentation
Manage subsea spare parts inventory and equipment certification compliance
Coordinate subsea activities with drilling operations, contractors, and client representatives
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with the Rig Maintenance System (RMS)
Support troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic and mechanical subsea systems
Maintain high housekeeping standards within subsea work areas
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Promote and maintain a strong offshore safety culture
Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and offshore regulations
Support emergency response and well control preparedness activities
Apply Time Out for Safety (TOFS) where required
Report all incidents, hazards, and non-conformances promptly
Ensure Permit to Work (PTW) procedures are fully followed during all operations
Qualifications & Requirements
Mechanical / Hydraulic Engineering Qualification
Well Control Surface & Subsea – Level 3 Driller
Current offshore certification including:
• OEUK Medical
• Offshore Survival (BOSIET / HUET / EBS / CA-EBS)
Minimum 3 years’ experience as Senior Subsea Engineer or equivalent role onboard an operational semi-submersible drilling rig or drilling vessel
Strong technical knowledge of offshore BOP systems and subsea equipment
Experience working within offshore drilling environments
Strong leadership and supervisory skills
Good communication and organisational abilities
Ability to work effectively within a multinational offshore team environment
Rotation & Contract Details
The position is based onboard the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig.
The Spain drilling campaign consists of 7 firm wells with an option to extend by a further 3 wells. This is expected to be followed by direct continuation of work in the UK under a Letter of Intent, potentially extending operations through to October 2031.
Rotations:
• Spain: 28 days on / 28 days off
• UK: 21 days on / 21 days off
